You probably have seen or even experienced when a dentist puts a special shaping mass in the mouth of the patient and takes the dental impression. This printout is information for the dental technician about the condition of the patient’s oral tissues and teeth. Today, this step may not be necessary if you use a modern iTero element scanner. This is an alternative to conventional prints. Using the scanner in diagnostics, it enables the patient comfort and accelerates the treatment processes. The traditional dental prints are replaced by a simple, clean and fast three-dimensional scans.

In order to take a print with a three-dimensional scanner it is enough to open your mouth for the doctor to scan the oral cavity using the camera. Detailed oral cavity printout is displayed on the screen shortly after the doctor takes the print so he/she can immediately assess the current situation and familiarise the patient with it.

This is an incredibly simple procedure. This not only facilitates the work of the doctor, but also saves the patient’s time.

The iTero scanner is most commonly used during orthodontic treatment and in the following cases:

  • Diagnostics;
  • Treatment planning;
  • Formatting a preliminary result;
  • For treatment with Invisalign aligners.

The scanner is used not only in orthodontics. It can also be used in pre-dental prosthesis, as well as in the manufacture of laminates, crowns or bridges, before the height of the occlusion or restoration of the anatomy of the teeth. The scanned image can immediately be sent to a dental laboratory where the procedure of restoration begins.

Advantages of iTero scanner:

  • No printout is needed;
  • Just one visit is enough to take a digital 3D image;
  • The patient can clearly understand his/her case – the doctor can comment on the situation by displaying the image on the computer screen;
  • If necessary, digital prints can be archived and later shared with laboratories or other doctors.
